Sunscreen for your eyes? We asked people on the streets of San Francisco.

What sunscreen do you use for your eyes?

Most people know about the importance of protecting their skin from potentially harmful UV rays, but what about their eyes?  Aren’t they just as or even more likely to be damaged from the sun?  To find out what people really think about UV protection for their eyes, we asked people on the streets of sunny San Francisco.

Using the ZEISS C-UVProtect

The result: 7 out of 10 clear eyeglass lenses only offer partial UV protection…letting as much as 40% of UV radiation through.

Many people said they hadn’t even thought about protecting their eyes from UV before…and they were not pleased to learn their eyeglasses lenses weren’t fully protecting their eyes from harmful UV radiation.

According to the American Academy of Opthalmology, too much exposure to UV light raises the risks of eye diseases, including cataracts, eye growths, such as pterygiums and pingueculas, and cancer.  Strong exposure to snow reflection can also quickly cause painful damage called snow blindness.

As eye care professionals know too well…

Protecting your eyes from the sun is extremely important for healthy eyes and vision.

But how can you tell if your eyeglasses have full sunglass-level UV protection?

Incomplete UV protection

The ZEISS C-UVProtect makes the invisible visible.

This cutting-edge device uses a special UV camera to show the amount of UV protection in eyeglass lenses.

No UV protection

If you can see your eyes through the lenses with the ZEISS C-UVProtect, that means your lenses DON’T have full sunglass-level UV protection.

If it looks like you’re wearing dark sunglasses, then your eyeglass lenses DO have full UV protection. ONLY ZEISS offers sunglass-level UV protection in all clear eyeglass lenses.
