The ZEISS Secacam 1 under review

By Martje Meyer

Trail cameras have become an integral part of my hunting grounds and everyday life. Above all, broadcasting cameras give me an excellent overview of the movements and activities of the wildlife around the clock – without having to be there myself all the time.

I can keep a constant eye on my game population and thus detect health issues or sudden changes at an early stage. I find it particularly interesting to observe how wildlife moves throughout the seasons in different weather conditions and moon phases.

My personal little highlight: checking the mobile app in the morning after getting up to see what the camera has captured during the night – for me, that’s simply part of my routine now.

After trying out several manufacturers of trail cameras, I now only use ZEISS Secacams in my hunting grounds. The extremely simple setup plays a particularly important role here. Switch on the camera, enter the code provided in the ZEISS Secacam App, and you’re done. I don’t have to worry about anything anymore because the SD card, SIM card and batteries are already activated and included directly in the camera.

The photo and video quality also impresses me every time. Both in daylight and at night, the cameras deliver clear and sharp images. What I enjoy most are the smart features: AI recognition, colorized night shots and the brand-new statistics functions in the app. This allows me to accurately assess, for example, at what times certain game is active in a particular area, so I can adapt my hunting strategy accordingly.

For me, the new ZEISS Secacam 1 is a great addition to the other models. Due to its low price, I will probably equip it in one or two corners of my hunting ground where I would otherwise probably not have installed a trail camera.

I particularly like the camera’s 16:9 aspect ratio. This was introduced with the Secacam 3 and already won me over there. The larger horizontal field of view simply provides a much better overview.

Another plus: the Secacam 1 is fully compatible with existing ZEISS accessories and features the ZEISS Vari-Mount. Whether it’s a solar panel or battery pack, everything fits perfectly and makes the camera flexible to use.
