The ZEISS Secacam range of trail cameras make for the perfect birding accessory, bringing nature right to your fingertips. I’ve found is great to observe nature through the seasons, even when I’m unable to get out into nature physically.
Don’t take Local Species for Granted – Explore your Garden
Aside from general nature observation, it’s an ideal way to monitor wildlife without human interference or disturbance. For example, setting up a trail camera near your garden where you can get updates on what birds are visiting your garden when you are away, looking at the Goldfinches on your feeders or even the local Grey Squirrel helping themselves to the peanuts!
I personally really appreciate the nighttime viewing functionality, I can easily view wildlife, sometimes at their most active, all while I am asleep! Recently, I managed to get a nighttime view of the foxes that have been visiting my garden, plus a brief glimpse of a Tawny Owl that had perched on the fence.
It can be easy to forget about all the nature in our own back garden and take local species for granted.
From the Wrens that are jumping around our flowerpots to seeing the flocks of House Sparrows all lined up waiting for their turn on the bird feeder. For me, the ZEISS Secacam trail camera has been a game-changer for nature observation.
Here are my Top Tips on getting the Most out of your ZEISS trail camera:
- Find the perfect location – pick a busy spot for your garden feathered friends. I’d recommend using a bird box, feeder or bird bath alongside your camera. Be sure to put your camera up before you set up the bird box/feeder/bird bath, to prevent disruption.
- Play around with angles – make sure the view is just right! We’d recommend using the test photo capture to get an idea of what the view will look like from the app. This way, you won’t miss a thing.
- Utilise the video capture functionality – enjoy capturing the video versions of your photos, easily view the moment before the animal’s step or fly by the camera.
- Night and day mode – observe nature, regardless of when, the ZEISS Secacam allows for easy (and clear) viewing even in the dead of night.

One thing I love about birding is you’re never sure what you’re going to see. You may see nothing for several days but then you will spot something that really sparks your interest and that makes it all worthwhile.
