Join us on September 16 to 18, 2016
Come see the Carl ZEISS Sports Optics team at the American Birding Expo, September 16 to 18, 2016, at the Grange Insurance Audubon Society/Scioto Audubon MetroPark in downtown Columbus, Ohio in the United States.
Not only can you see the entire ZEISS line of premier optics at the Expo, you can also enjoy the exquisite original artwork of Catherine Hamilton, one of five ZEISS Birding Ambassadors worldwide.
We recently caught up with Catherine to ask her about her appearance at the Expo: “I’ll be bringing originals of monochromatic graphite watercolor paintings from my Ghost Birds series of endangered species. These are species that I have some connection to from my travels over the past year,” she said. “I’ll also be showing color watercolor paintings of birds from my travels and research, and I’ll have signed archival prints available of selected works, plus two different card sets available as well,” she added.
“Working with ZEISS to help promote their conservation efforts through my artwork, travels, and appearances has been very gratifying. Our latest project has been partnering with ZEISS and Birdlife International to produce T-shirts, the sales of which support bird conservation efforts through BirdLife.”
Catherine’s artwork at the Expo will be on display in the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, adjacent to the Optics Room, where the Carl ZEISS Sports Optics booth is located.
It’s no coincidence that Catherine’s beautiful Arctic loons, which adorn the ZEISS T-shirts being sold for conservation, are thematically aligned with the launch of the new Gavia spotting scope from ZEISS. Gavia is the taxonomic genus to which the world’s loons belong.
The American Birding Expo, billed as “the world of birding in one place,” is in its second year of existence. The 2015 Expo drew more than 2,500 birding consumers from 35 states in the U.S. and 80+ exhibitors from more than 30 countries.
The Expo is free to attendees, but there is a suggested $5 donation at the door to support the Expo Conservation Fund, which in turn funds three distinct and important conservation causes. Learn more about the 2016 American Birding Expo on the event’s website www.birdingexpo.com.
Carl ZEISS Sports Optics is a top-level sponsor of the American Birding Expo and we invite birders and nature enthusiasts of all levels of interest to stop by our booth in the Optics Room, and to see Catherine’s mini-gallery of her wonderful artwork. We’ll be posting selfies and group photos on social media, using the hashtag #zeissfriends, so you can follow us, even if you can’t make it to the American Birding Expo.
